My name is Marie Anne Portelance. I am a teacher at Pierre Elliott Trudeau Elementary School. Over the span of my teaching career, I’ve come to understand how important physical activity is for children’s growth development, mental health, and overall well-being.
I am a firm believer that every kid should do at least one hour of physical activity each day. As a teacher, I see the direct correlation between physical activity and improvements in concentration levels in the classroom. Therefore, in the last couple of years, I have been trying to integrate more physical activity into my teaching regime.
Last year, my class ran every day. This year, I thought it would be fun to give my students some incentive. As a class, we decided to ‘run to Nashville’ for P.K. Subban. You are an important public figure and a great role model. So far, we’ve run almost 550 kilometers, making us a third of the way to Nashville!
When our story was picked up by the news, the kids became even more dedicated to reaching their goal. They even made the upcoming book fair a P.K. Subban/Nashville theme.
P.K., your acknowledgment has definitely motivated the kids and they are even more enthusiastic about reaching their goal now. Thank you for playing such a huge role in their lives and being a positive example for them to look up to.
You are a true inspiration.
